Power Plant Technology
Power plants vary widely in their range of equipment, from those fueled by coal or natural gas to those using nuclear power, hydropower or geothermal energy.
However, all applications share a common goal: to meet the growing demand for energy in a responsible and efficient manner. We supply proven packings and seal kits that improve the availability of power plant equipment by:
- Increased operational reliability
- Improved plant uptime
- Less maintenance interventions
- Reduced emissions and product loss
Our products are successfully used worldwide in all main and auxiliary processes.
Packing types
Products customized for applications in the power plant industry.
-
Valve Packing
A 37 GraphoFlon
No slip stick effect; High cross section density; High temperature resistant to minimize emissions; Non hardening, good reset capability; Coefficient of thermal expansion similar to steel; Easy to cut, install and disassemble; Low coefficient of friction minimizes the adjustment force in valves; Recommended as die formed rings; For valve applications rings should be approx. 25 - 30% compressed at installation
-
Valve Packing
A 99 Spezialgraph
Universal plant wide use in static applications; Extrusion stability through ultrafine 10 myh Inconel mesh reinforcement on each strand; Non hardening, good reset capability, coefficient of thermal expansion corresponds to the coefficient of steel; High temperature and pressure resistance; Easy to cut, assemble and disassemble; Low coefficient of friction minimizes the adjustment force in valves; For valve applications rings should be approx. 25 - 30 % compressed at installation; A 99 can be used as bullrings for style A 44 I, P60 and ARF; Die formed rings are recommended; Contains effective passive corrosion inhibitor
-
Pump packing
P 20 Carbon
Strong against abrasive mediums, yet low friction on shaft surface; Recommended shaft/sleeve hardness HRC 45; Volume stabile, minimal shrinkage, good heat conductivity; Suitable as bullrings
-
Trapez Pack
Trapez-Pack®55 Grapho Carbo
Universal plant wide use in static and rotating applications; Wear and extrusion stability through carbon fiber corner reinforcement; Non hardening, good reset capability, coefficient of thermal expansion corresponds to the coefficient of steel; High temperature resistance and excellent heat and electric conductivity; Self lubricating, excellent use in pumps, minimizing the need of flushwater; Easy to cut, assemble and disassemble; Low coefficient of friction minimizes the adjustment force in valves; No shaft wear, excellent dry running characteristics; Rings should be compressed in valve applications at assembly approx. 15 - 20 % in height; Die formed rings are recommended

Sealing applications in practice
In a coal-fired power plant, a Clyde Bergemann sootblower was previously sealed with a graphite packing. The product to be sealed was steam. 7 rings with the dimension 60x80x10mm were installed. The usual service life was 6-9 months. The packing had to be retightened weekly, in some cases by half a turn on the eyeglass bolts. To improve the service life, the SOOTSTAR carbon black blower set was used together with the LiveLoading System Proload. The service life was 15 months. Leakage was not visible and the need for adjustment was one eighth of a turn per month and was indicated by the ProLoad system.
SOOTSTAR
carbon black blower set
In a coal-fired power plant, a Clyde Bergemann carbon black blower was previously installed with a graphite packing set consisting of braided graphite pre-bearing rings and graphite foil rings divided into half shells. The product to be sealed was steam. A total of 7 rings measuring 60x80x10mm were installed. In order to keep the plant running, one ring had to be refilled every week. To improve the service life, the SOOTSTAR carbon black blower set was used together with the LiveLoading System Proload. The service life was 12 months.
ProLoad
Live Loading System
In a coal-fired power plant, a Mitsubishi sootblower was previously installed with a wire-reinforced braided graphite packing. The product to be sealed was steam. A total of 9 rings measuring 60x75x7.5mm were installed. The service life was 2 months. For optimization, the SOOTSTAR carbon black blower set was used together with the LiveLoading System Proload. The service life was 14 months, and the application showed no visible leakage.
